  Windows 3.x PPP Setup Guide

A Windows 3.x PPP connection requires that the user run and install the 95Net software.   The Netscape or any other 3rd party dialer may also be used, however we do not provide support for them.

  1. The 95Net Internet Setup software will create the program group shown below.  Initially the browser icons ( Netscape and Internet Explorer ) will not be available.

  3. Click File and select Setup.  The setup screen will appear.

The information here should already be setup by the software.  If necessary you can change the SLIP Port if the modem is not responding.  You can use 1, 2, 3,or 4.  The Baud Rate will vary depending on your modem.  Use the chart below for the proper setting.  Very Important: the IP Address should always be set to 0.0.0.0 prior to dialing out.  After a connection has established, this number will be assigned by our server. The IP address should reset to 0.0.0.0 after hanging up.   Click O.K. to close the Setup screen.  Any changes you make will not take effect until you close and restart Trumpet Winsock.

  5. To verify or change the phone number, in the Trumpet Winsock main window, click on Dialler and select Setup Cmd.   Enter the correct phone number.  Enter the 1-area code only if you really need to dial outside of your current area code.  Click OK and you will be prompted for a Modem Init String.  You can generally leave this blank.  Click O.K. to return to the main window.

  6. You are ready to establish a PPP connection.  In the main window, click Dialler and select Login.  A successful connection is indicated only by "Accepted: My IP address = ..."  Do not attempt to run any Internet program unless this message appears.  If it doesn't, click Dialler and select Bye, then push the Esc button on your keyboard and try again.
